From the name itself, Team Board Game is a store dedicated to all things board games! From the controversial Cards against Humanity, to the Game of Thrones Card Game to my personal favourite Codenames, Team Board Game has always something in stock that’s perfect for you and your pals. There are a gazillion different types of board games for sale in Team Board Game’s store near the MacPherson MRT station that you might have some difficulty choosing one. Which is why they offer tables so that customers can try out their board games first for a small rental fee. For just $3 per person per hour, shoppers can pick out a board game they want to try out before deciding to buy it – whether at the store or at their website online.
It’s not exactly a board game café, but groups of friends can just walk in and rent a table to play board games. Be sure to book early though (in-store or online) as they may be full especially during the weekends. A few weeks ago, I dropped by the store to buy a new board game as I needed a break from the usual stuff. Their accommodating listened to my specific requests and saved me a lot of time to find the one I liked. Their products are all systematically organized and displayed in shelves and I was able to pick one pretty quickly. If you’re an avid fan of collectible action figures and toys, then a visit to Action City will surely be worth your time. Packing figures from the most famous comic book and movie franchises, such as Star Wars, The Avengers, and DC Superheroes, Action City’s store is amazing to behold. Action City is one of the most established local chains of toy stores around Singapore, with four branches around Singapore – Ngee Ann City (their flagship store), Bugis Junction, VivoCity and Jewel Changi Airport.
On one of my travels, I dropped by their Jewel Changi Airport branch and it was hard to not gawk around in their shop even for those who are not avid action figure fanatics. Upon entering the store, I’m greeted by a life-size statue of Batman who’s surrounded by so many action figures of everyone’s favorite movie and comic book characters, like Darth Vader and Ironman. There’s just so many action figures to choose from and it is definite a wonderful treat for kids (and adults!) of all ages. They also have a collection of art toys, which are figures that act like a blank canvas for you to design on your own. They regularly host toy exhibits showcasing the different art toys designed by local and international artists. Another thing I loved about the Jewel Changi Airport branch is their own AC Kafe beside the store, which is a toy-themed café serving delectable coffee and desserts. Action City at Jewel is a Singaporean toy store you don’t want to miss!

LEGO fans and aficionados will be happy to know that there is a LEGO-certified store right here in Singapore! Bricks World has been selling official LEGO products to Singaporeans for almost 16 years since its inception in Ngee Ann City back in 2003. It is the largest and oldest LEGO specialist store in the country and now has seven branches all around Singapore. They were also the first retailer to partner with Lego Singapore and launch the first-ever LEGO-Certified Store (LCS) in Singapore.
Bricks World at ION Orchard is top on my list because it is a LEGO-Certified Store. Aside from the fact that the store is filled with bricks upon bricks of LEGO, it’s got a few features that LEGO fans would love! They have a Pick-a-Brick (PAB) wall that contains canisters filled with LEGO where customers can personally hand-pick individual bricks that they need for their next LEGO builds. If you have kids, you can have them play at ‘The Living Room’ at the center of the store while you look for the next LEGO set that you’re purchasing. As a self-confessed lover of cool stuff, the collections at Toytag is such joy to browse. Some of their products that I absolutely loved are the pi-top [3], a modular laptop that you can tinker and modify, and the Singaporean Dream Card Game, where you can play your way into becoming the ultimate Singaporean.
